In this edition: From proactive assistants to AI-powered spreadsheets, the landscape is changing fast, and every new release seems to push the boundaries of how and where we interact with these tools.

This is Q&AI, our blog series aimed at keeping you in the know on updates in the rapidly evolving world of AI. Sometimes, these will be quick updates on new developments in the field. Sometimes, they’ll be tips on tactics, features, or functionality.

If you haven’t met me yet, hi: I’m Jen Taylor, CI’s Director of AI Strategy & Implementation, and your (very human) AI BFF. AI is moving at the speed of light, so I’m here to let you know what matters most now.

Q: THERE SEEM TO BE A LOT OF AI UPDATES COMING FAST AND FURIOUS. WHAT’S NEW IN THE LAST WEEK OR TWO?

A: You’re absolutely right — it’s been a busy one. Let’s run through the top headlines shaping the AI landscape right now.

#1 ChatGPT Pulse: Proactive AI Is Here

OpenAI launched ChatGPT Pulse, currently available only to Pro users. The tool reviews all of your past chats, proactively researches topics you might find interesting, and delivers a personalized report in the morning (because it works overnight while you’re sleeping).

This is one of the first major examples of proactive AI — systems that don’t just respond to prompts, but take initiative on your behalf.

#2 ChatGPT Adds Direct Purchasing

OpenAI is rolling out direct purchasing inside ChatGPT through a new partnership with Stripe. The feature currently supports Etsy products, letting users click a “Buy” button and complete purchases without leaving ChatGPT.

It’s a fascinating new revenue stream and raises questions about future monetization, especially as rumors swirl about ads possibly coming to the platform.

#3 Sora 2 and the Launch of a Social App

OpenAI has also released Sora 2, an updated version of its AI video generator, along with a new social app. The model can now create longer clips (5 to 10 seconds) and sync audio to visuals, enabling more natural dialogue and storytelling.

The companion app is currently iOS-only and limited in access. One standout feature, Cameo, lets users insert themselves or friends into AI videos. While I’m not personally a fan of these social AI tools (they often feel like wasted compute), this one does take safety seriously:

  • Every video includes visible watermarks and AI metadata
  • Users control who can use their Cameo
  • Teen accounts face tighter restrictions

That’s encouraging progress on the responsible-use front.

#4 Claude Sonnet 4.5: Anthropic’s Latest Update

Anthropic introduced Claude Sonnet 4.5, emphasizing its coding capabilities and new productivity features. It can now generate and export documents directly to Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.

I tested it out, and yes, it actually built me a downloadable PowerPoint. A small update, but a big signal that AI is moving deeper into everyday office workflows.

#5 Microsoft Adds Agent Mode to Word and Excel

Microsoft just launched Agent Mode inside Word and Excel. This AI layer goes beyond the basic Copilot functions — it can plan and execute multi-step tasks directly within documents, rather than just generating one-off responses. Right now, it’s available only on the web versions, but a full rollout is expected soon.

Bonus: The AI Actor Controversy

Tilly Norwood is reportedly the first AI actress close to signing a deal with a real talent agency, and Hollywood is NOT happy. I’m with them. Acting is a human craft, and while technology can enhance storytelling, it shouldn’t replace the people who bring stories to life. Hopefully this marks the start of an important conversation, not the start of a trend.

your friend,
Jen
