Capacity Interactive is the premier digital marketing consulting firm for culture and the arts. Founded in 2008 by Erik Gensler, Capacity Interactive partners with leading arts and cultural organizations in the U.S and internationally to help them build audiences, engage community and market smarter. Practice areas include digital advertising, web analytics, search engine optimization, search engine marketing, email strategy, and online fundraising.
Capacity Interactive has a strong focus on education for our clients and in the arts and cultural sector. CI hosts Digital Marketing Boot Camp for the Arts, an annual conference in New York City, and Capacity Classroom, a series of small group workshops where arts marketers can strengthen their digital skills.
Erik founded Capacity Interactive in 2008 and Digital Marketing Boot Camp for the Arts in 2011. Erik is a sought-after speaker on digital marketing for the arts. He’s presented at Opera America, The League of Resident Theaters, Tessitura, and Dance USA, among others. He has guest lectured at Yale, Columbia, and NYU.
Erik began his career at Marakon Associates, an international management consulting firm, and built his career at NBC Universal, New York City Opera, and The Marketing Group, where he worked with non-profit arts clients. When not at work Erik enjoys cycling, running, cooking, the beach, seeing shows and spending time with his rambunctious dog.
Christopher has been marketing the nonprofit performing arts across the country for more than 20 years at Performing Arts Centers, the Coconut Grove Playhouse, and was the Director of Marketing at New York City Center before joining Capacity Interactive.
Outside of the office, Christopher is a triathlete and marathoner, loves the ballet, and identifies as a bit of a New York hillbilly, transit geek, infrastructure nerd, and classic cinema aficionado!
Yosaif leads analytics, SEO, and site optimization projects at Capacity Interactive. Previously, he was Director of Analytics at Huge and at AKQA, where he built teams that leveraged data to inform the strategy behind website redesign and optimization projects.
Outside the office, Yosaif loves cycling and snowboarding, and is continually searching for that perfect slice of (vegan) NY pizza.
Ashley joined the Capacity Interactive team after 10 years of working in non-profit arts organizations in NYC, including Manhattan Theatre Club, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and, most recently, Lincoln Center Theater, where she was the Associate Director of Marketing.
When not at a show of some kind, she can be found hiking a mountain or curled up with a good book and a craft beer next to her beagle, Ruby.
ShaKea joined Capacity Interactive after graduating from Swarthmore College and interning in the development departments of Dance/USA | Philadelphia, The Innocence Project, and American Documentary | POV.
In her free time she enjoys stalking dance companies on social media, searching for the perfect pair of shoes, trying to fool people into thinking she’s Olivia Pope.
Carly joined the Capacity Interactive team after working in executive search at Egon Zehnder, as well as previous general and company management roles with Wolf Hall, Parts 1 & 2 and at Goodspeed Musicals; she is a proud graduate of the University of Michigan.
In her free time, Carly enjoys ballroom dancing, both socially in New York City and competitively across the East Coast.
Jess joined the Capacity Interactive team after receiving her Master of Arts Management from Carnegie Mellon University and working with arts organizations in Pittsburgh and New York such as Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, Tinc Productions and Joey Parnes Productions.
In her spare time, Jess works on her health and wellness blog, cuddles with her dog Callie, and searches high and low for the best paleo food in New York!
Talia joined the Capacity Interactive team after working in event programming and marketing for the Association of National Advertisers. She has also interned at advertising agencies such as Ogilvy.
When she’s not at work, Talia enjoys taking dance classes and performing with DanceWorks New York City, as well as being an enthusiastic consumer of all forms of entertainment–dance, theater, film, music, comedy, and of course, Netflix.
Molly joined the Capacity Interactive team with a love of theater and eight years of experience working as marketing specialist for a national professional services firm.
Though she isn’t currently performing on stage, Molly is an active theater-goer, museum visitor, and ice-cream taste tester.
Jacqui joined the Capacity Interactive team following seven years of experience in advertising for commercial theatre, most recently she served as the Digital Media Supervisor at Serino/Coyne, where she oversaw the media strategy and buying for all digital clients on Broadway, off-Broadway, as well as non-profit and touring productions.
In her free time, Jacqui is most likely to be found running in Central Park, perfecting her cupcake recipes, or expanding her Playbill collection.
Johnna joined the Capacity Interactive team after nearly 10 years working in marketing and development in non-profit arts organizations including the Telfair Museum of Art and Long Wharf Theatre. During that time she completed an MA in Arts Administration at Columbia University, during which she held internships at The Whitney Museum of American Art and Capacity Interactive.
Outside the office Johnna can be found discovering artisans and traditional craft around the world, at a yoga class, or watching the antics of her toddler Henry and Golden Retriever Indy.
Shira joined the Capacity Interactive team after working in development at UJA-Federation of New York and then completing an MA in Arts Administration at Columbia University, during which time she held internships at The Whitney Museum of American Art and The Public Theater.
Outside the office Shira can be found wandering around museums, reading a novel, at a yoga class, or on a spin bike.
Jess joined the Capacity Interactive team after finishing her Master of Arts in Arts Administration at Columbia University in May 2017, as well as completing the Capacity Interactive internship program.
When she’s not at CI, you can find Jess on the quest for the city’s best cup of coffee, attempting to perfect the art of homemade pizza, or voraciously consuming music.
Priya joined the Capacity Interactive team after working in marketing and sales at Dodger Properties, on Jersey Boys and Matilda the Musical.
When she’s not at work, Priya enjoys seeing as much theatre as possible, teaching Doonya (a Bollywood workout), and discovering new restaurants all over NYC.
Katie joined the Capacity Interactive team after years of working in marketing in both the corporate and nonprofit sectors.
In her spare time, she enjoys seeing dance and theater performances, taking yoga classes, exploring tea shops and lounging in the park with a book.
Tori joined the Capacity Interactive team after graduating from Duke University, working with Duke Performances, and completing the Capacity Interactive internship program.
In her free time, Tori can be found searching for new music, wandering through Brooklyn, watching too much Netflix, or attempting to cook.
Sam joined the Capacity Interactive team after three and a half years at Manhattan Theatre Club where she was the Company Manager for 15 productions on Stages I and II at NY City Center.
In her free time, Sam enjoys seeing theater and dance productions, traveling, and hanging out with her puppy, Piper.
Jenny joined the Capacity Interactive team after working for several years with Carolina Performing Arts at UNC-Chapel Hill, and interning with the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C.
When she’s not at work, Jenny can be found knitting in a cozy armchair or wandering through a museum.
Ryan joined the Capacity Interactive team after two years of doing Paid Search marketing for a nonprofit education organization.
Outside of the office, Ryan enjoys going to the theater/opera, reading a new book, or playing his violin.
Andrew joined Capacity Interactive after holding various production and administrative roles with the Chesapeake Orchestra, Maryland Youth Symphony Orchestra, and The Louisville Orchestra.
In his spare time, you can catch Andrew roasting his own coffee beans, experimenting with different brew methods, and seeing the array of music performances New York City has to offer.
Becky joined Capacity Interactive after working for the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra as the Marketing & Social Media Manager. She received her MBA with a specialization in Performing Arts Administration from the University of Delaware.
Becky enjoys playing the cello in her community orchestra, trivia games, and clever puns.
Emmy joined the Capacity Interactive team after working in communications and digital marketing for a child development non-profit.
When not at work, you can find her hiking through the Hudson Valley, visiting one of New York’s renowned museums, attending a concert, or visiting a new bakery.
Kathleen joined Capacity Interactive after completing a master’s degree in Performing Arts Administration from New York University. While pursuing graduate studies, Kathleen worked as a Marketing Specialist at NYU’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. Prior to graduate school, Kathleen worked at The Araca Group, a Broadway production and merchandising company. Kathleen worked on accounts such as Rock of Ages, The Book of Mormon, Wicked The Musical, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Jersey Boys. Kathleen received a BFA in drama from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
On weekends, Kathleen can often be found seeing plays and improv shows all over NYC. Her favorite show of all time is August: Osage County.
Aziza joined the Capacity Interactive team after three years as an AmeriCorps VISTA and a short stint on the marketing team with the Curran theater in San Francisco.
A born-and-raised Californian with lifelong New York aspirations, she enjoys singing, comic books, coffee, napping, and trying to figure out how to successfully combine those last two things (she is open to suggestions from the audience).
Austin joined the Capacity Interactive Operations Team following more than fifteen years of managing theatres in both the not-for-profit and commercial worlds. He spent a decade with the Nederlander Organization where he helped maintain and operate some of Broadway’s most historic theatres and was privileged to help bring many productions to the stage, such as An American In Paris, Kristin Chenoweth: My Love Letter to Broadway, and Hamilton.
Austin’s deep passion for theatre follows him home, but he also loves old-school sit coms, science fiction and fantasy in all its forms, any great novel, politics, astronomy, and cooking anything and everything he can get his hands on.
Nick joined the Capacity Interactive team in 2013. Previously, he worked in Account Services at Serino Coyne, a Broadway advertising agency, and before that, in Development at Roundabout Theatre Company and Manhattan Theatre Club.

Krisi joined Capacity Interactive after working in the public radio world as a reporter, producer, and most recently, Associate Director of Marketing and Communications at StoryCorps. Krisi planned and executed digital and traditional communications strategies for the national nonprofit and secured national media coverage.
Krisi is a music lover and you will find her at a variety of live performances, from punk rock to opera. She also enjoys theater, dance, and the Golden Girls.
Rachel joined the Capacity Interactive team after studying stage management at University of Maryland, where she became a founding company member of Pointless Theatre in DC.
Outside of the office, you can find Rachel working events at Ars Nova or sipping on a whiskey ginger at Rockwood Music Hall.
Jamie joined the Capacity Interactive team after completing her master’s degree in Arts Administration from Columbia and is a proud alumna of the Capacity Interactive internship program.
When she’s not nerding out about theatre, digital marketing, or Lord of the Rings, Jamie can be found kicking your butt in Scrabble, checking things off her New York City bucket list, and petting every dog she sees.
Jenna joined the Capacity Interactive team after working for seven years at Jazz at Lincoln Center in marketing and fundraising.
Though a retired violist, she loves attending all things performing arts and also enjoys snowboarding, cooking, and binge-watching Hulu.
Laura joined the Capacity Interactive team after holding various positions within the performing arts world, hospitality, and events.
Outside of the office, Laura enjoys attending plays, consuming all forms of audio content, hosting meals for friends, and seeking out every new restaurant in Queens.
Liz joined the Capacity Interactive team as an undergraduate at Barnard College, and has had the pleasure of sticking around ever since. A lifelong musician, Liz has spent most of her professional life working in musical settings, be it teaching, performing, or marketing.
In her spare time, Liz loves discovering new podcasts, traipsing aimlessly around museums, playing her guitar, and fielding eye-rolls for her dad jokes.
Rachel joined the Capacity Interactive team after working as a Project Manager at Manus+CO, a nonprofit management consulting firm, where she assisted with oversight of the development, marketing, and operations for a number of arts nonprofits, including Southampton Arts Center, Playwrights of New York (PoNY) and the Arthur Miller Foundation.
Outside of the office, Rachel is often taking ballet classes, watching and/or performing Shakespeare, or pretending to be a potential buyer at stores that sell puppies.
Austin joined the Capacity Interactive team after studying “The Dark Arts: Schadenfreude in Theatre and TV” at NYU (yes, really) and then working at CESD Talent Agency in their Voice Over department, where he mostly scolded actors to sound more like humans.
While not at work, Austin can be found seeing copious amounts of theater and watching way too much television for his own good.
Katherine joined the Capacity Interactive team after graduating from Florida State University and interning in the literary world.
In her free time Katherine can be found with her headphones on lip-syncing through the streets of New York, seeking out the city’s best ice cream, reading, or cheering on her Celtics.
Dan recently joined Capacity Interactive after relocating from London, where he worked in various digital marketing agencies, with clients such as Selfridges and Expedia.
After he leaves the office, he can be found performing at various improv comedy venues, where he subjects the audience to forced puns and terrible jokes.
Thomas joined Capacity Interactive after leading digital arts marketing initiatives at San Francisco Ballet and Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Thomas is a frequent speaker on the arts in the digital age, and has presented for TCG, Tessitura, IVY, Dance/USA, Stanford’s d.school, the University of Chicago, and of course Digital Marketing Bootcamp.
Outside the office, Thomas tinkers with creative coding, loves all water activities, and enjoys hiking, cooking outdoors, and building things with wood.
Jane joined the Capacity Interactive team after receiving her MA in Performing Arts Administration from NYU, during which time she interned at Signature Theatre, Playwrights Realm, and was the Operations Assistant at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.
Jane spends her free time exploring the city in search of the best bourbon bar (feel free to email her with any suggestions) and Instagraming photos of her cat (@whittyj).
